Louisville, Ky. (Men's and Women's Track & Field) – In the final meet on the Shawnee State men's and women's track & field slate, Brad Liston (SR/Circleville, Ohio) put together his best 1500 meter run time of the season at the Louisville Twilight meet on Friday evening at Cardinal Park, completing the race in 3:53.78 to eclipse the A Standard and qualify for the NAIA National Championship.
Liston finished fifth in the race, becoming the 34th runner in the NAIA to qualify in the 1500 with an A Standard time. He becomes the sixth SSU runner – along with both the men's and women's 4x800 relay squads – to post a national standard this season.
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Men's and Women's Track & Field) – The Shawnee State men's and women's track teams were honored academically with 11 runners earning Mid-South Conference All-Academic accolades, conference officials announced.
The men's team earned five Academic All-Conference nods, while the women's side landed six members on the squad.
COLUMBIA, Ky. (Men's and Women's Track & Field) – The Shawnee State men's and women's track and field squads both got off to strong starts at the Mid-South Conference Championships, as the Bears took first place in four different events including a clean sweep of the 4x800 meter relays.
The women's side was dominant in the relay, taking first place by more than 18 seconds over the second place finishers the University of the Cumberlands. The Bears finished with a time of 9:31.03 to grab 10 points.
DANVILLE, Ky. (Men's and Women's Track & Field) – The Shawnee State men's and women's track & field teams added a late meet to the schedule, sending several runners to the Centre College Twilight Meet over the weekend. The late addition paid off, as Brad Liston (SR/Circleville, Ohio) notched a "B Standard" in the 1500 meter race, finishing third, overall.
Liston's time of 3:56.07 eclipsed the B Standard time by just under half a second, as the senior became the second SSU men's runner to notch an NAIA qualifying time. Joe Stewart (SR/Crown City, Ohio) qualified for the half marathon at the Shamrock Half Marathon on March 22.
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Women's Track & Field) – Shawnee State sophomore Megan Ashton (SO/Proctorville, Ohio) has been named the Mid-South Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week – SSU's first-such honor this season – conference officials announced on Tuesday.
Ashton earned the recognition after a stellar performance in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the All-Ohio Championships over the weekend.
