PORTSMOUTH – Volleyball opens it postseason this weekend as the Bears travel to Louisville for the Mid-South Conference Volleyball Championship. With their fifth-place finish during the regular season, the Bears (17-14, 9-9 MSC) draw a match against St. Catharine (20-12, 11-7 MSC) in the quarterfinals.
PORTSMOUTH – A program record six student-athletes were named to the Mid-South Conference All-Academic squad for the Shawnee State volleyball team. This six award recipients from this year's team topped the previous record of five which was set just one season ago. To be eligible for this honor, a student-athlete must be in at least sophomore academic standing with a 3.25 or higher GPA.
PORTSMOUTH – Volleyball closed out the regular season with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Rio Grande Thursday evening inside Waller Gymnasium during the team's Senior Night. The 3-0 loss saw each game end with identical 25-23 scores. However, despite leads late in the opening two games it was the RedStorm that were able to close strong each time and turn the competitive match into a sweep. With the win, Rio Grande salvages a season split with the Bears after SSU took a five-game win from the RedStorm on their home court earlier this fall.
PORTSMOUTH - Shawnee State now holds fifth place in the Mid-South Conference after a 3-1 win against the University of Cumberlands Saturday afternoon. Paige Zelich led the offense with a match-high 14 kills while Tiffany Jackson followed with 11 on the win. PORTSMOUTH - Shawnee State defeated Cumberland University for the second time this season with a 3-0 victory last Friday night. Christina Shelton led the offense with eight kills in the win.
