LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Volleyball was eliminated from the Mid-South Conference Tournament in the quarterfinal round Friday afternoon. The fifth-seeded Bears held leads in the opening two games but fourth-seeded St. Catharine would prevail in both of those games before moving into the semifinals with a 3-0 win (25-22, 25-19, 25-12).
PORTSMOUTH – Volleyball placed a pair of its standouts on the All-Mid-South Conference team that was recently announced by conference officials. Paige Zelich earned first-team All-MSC honors for Shawnee State while Carly Mazza was selected to the second team. The all-conference teams are voted on by the Mid-South Conference coaches.
PORTSMOUTH – Kirsti Yates has been selected as the Mid-South Conference Champions of Character representative for volleyball. Yates is the first player in the program's history to earn this distinction. The award is voted on by the MSC Athletic Directors and is based on a student-athletes commitment to the five core values of the NAIA (Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, and Servant Leadership).
PORTSMOUTH – Volleyball opens it postseason this weekend as the Bears travel to Louisville for the Mid-South Conference Volleyball Championship. With their fifth-place finish during the regular season, the Bears (17-14, 9-9 MSC) draw a match against St. Catharine (20-12, 11-7 MSC) in the quarterfinals.
PORTSMOUTH – A program record six student-athletes were named to the Mid-South Conference All-Academic squad for the Shawnee State volleyball team. This six award recipients from this year's team topped the previous record of five which was set just one season ago. To be eligible for this honor, a student-athlete must be in at least sophomore academic standing with a 3.25 or higher GPA.
