PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Men's Soccer) – Five members of the Shawnee State men's soccer team have been honored as 2014 Daktronics-NAIA Men's Soccer Scholar Athletes, the national office announced late last week.
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Men's Soccer) – Ten Shawnee State men's soccer players have been named to the Mid-South Conference All-Academic Team, the conference office announced earlier this week. The honor was given to any player with at least sophomore status who earned a 3.25 GPA or better.
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Men's Soccer) – The Shawnee State men's soccer team earned a trio of All-Conference awards, as Joseph Webster (SR/Kendal, Cumbria United Kingdom) was named to the Mid-South Conference First Team and Brandon Pfeifer (FR/Canal Winchester, Ohio) and Ben Pulsford (JR/Slough, England) were named to the Second Team, conference officials announced Thursday.
A senior, Webster was named to the All-Conference for the second-straight year, getting a second-team nod last season. This year, he found the back of the net a team-leading seven times. Webster added an assist for a total of 15 points, also tops on the squad.
ST. CATHARINE, Ky. (Men's Soccer) – The Shawnee State men's soccer team recorded zero shots on goal and allowed two first half goals, as the Bears were defeated, 2-0, at the hands of St. Catharine College on St. Catherine Turf.
Despite offensive efforts including 6 mis-placed shots and 2 corner kicks, the Bears were scoreless in the first half of play while rendering 2 goals to St. Catherine.
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Men's Soccer) – The Shawnee State men's soccer squad will travel to St. Catharine, Ky., to take on St. Catharine College in the opening round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament Opening Round. The match is set for Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Bears represent the sixth seed in the MSC tournament, and will face the third-seeded Patriots. SSU finished Mid-South play with a 1-4-2 record with a 4-11-3 record, overall. The squad landed in a tie for fifth place, with the tie broken based on a head-to-head loss to the University of the Cumberlands.
