COLUMBIA, Ky. (Men's and Women's Track & Field) – The Shawnee State men's and women's track and field squads both got off to strong starts at the Mid-South Conference Championships, as the Bears took first place in four different events including a clean sweep of the 4x800 meter relays.
The women's side was dominant in the relay, taking first place by more than 18 seconds over the second place finishers the University of the Cumberlands. The Bears finished with a time of 9:31.03 to grab 10 points.
DANVILLE, Ky. (Men's and Women's Track & Field) – The Shawnee State men's and women's track & field teams added a late meet to the schedule, sending several runners to the Centre College Twilight Meet over the weekend. The late addition paid off, as Brad Liston (SR/Circleville, Ohio) notched a "B Standard" in the 1500 meter race, finishing third, overall.
Liston's time of 3:56.07 eclipsed the B Standard time by just under half a second, as the senior became the second SSU men's runner to notch an NAIA qualifying time. Joe Stewart (SR/Crown City, Ohio) qualified for the half marathon at the Shamrock Half Marathon on March 22.
Oxford, Ohio (Men's and Women's Track & Field) – Megan Ashton placed second with a time of 11:09.06 in the 3000-meter steeplechase, qualifying for the NAIA Outdoor National Championship, as SSU finished 13th on Saturday at George L. Rider Track.
.Ashton was joined in the 3K steeplechase by Ashlyn Howie. Howie finished in the sixth spot with a time of 11:35.82. Andi Lanigan and Brianna Tudor also participated in the event.
Oxford, Ohio (Men's and Women's Track & Field) – Shawnee State finished in the 15th overall spot at the Miami Invitational on Saturday at George L. Rider Track.
One of the bright spots in SSU's performance was Megan Ashton (SO/Proctorville, Ohio). Ashton finished in ninth place of 38 spots in the women's 1500 meter run, finishing with a time of 4:46.50. She also finished in 16th in the women's 800 meter run. Cara Dillon also placed 16th in the javelin throw, chucking it 22.78 meters.
Cedarville, Ohio (Men's and Women's Track & Field) – Shawnee State finished 12th on Sunday at the Yellow Jacket Collegiate Outdoor Open. Darryl Williams (SO) was the top performer for the Bears, scoring six points at the Yellow Jacket Track & Field Complex.
Williams ran the 100 meter dash in just 11.48 seconds, earning him the fourth overall spot in the event. His performance awarded the men's team all six of their points on the day, placing them 12th in the competition.
