PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Women's Soccer) – Shawnee State scored four goals in the opening half, including a pair from Maddie Woodard (FR/Camden, Ohio) as the Bears cruised to a 4-0 victory over Ohio Valley University to open the season at Shawnee Turf on Tuesday.

The victory marked the 100th in program history, the 71st from current head coach Rob Appell.

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Volleyball) – It took the Shawnee State volleyball just three sets to earn its third victory of the season, defeating Mount Vernon Nazarene 25-23, 25-19, 25-20 Tuesday evening at Waller Gymnasium.

The Bears also won an exhibition match over Columbus State in a five-set thriller during the tri-match later in the evening.

DEARBORN, Mich. (Volleyball) – The Shawnee State volleyball team won a pair of games and dropped two, going 2-2 at the Earlybird Tournament in Dearborn, Mich., over the weekend.

The Bears opened the season with a 3-0 loss to Indiana University-South Bend before winning a 3-2 thriller over Lawrence Tech to tally the first victory of the season on Friday.

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Softball) – The Shawnee State softball team showed off their Champions of Character Live 5 colors by helping with "Boston Garden-Where Friendship Grows" at Notre Dame Elementary.

Lauren Hill, the Food Services Director at Notre Dame Elementary, is in her first year of creating a garden in memory of Boston Schwamburger.  Boston was a special young boy that attended Notre Dame and passed away from brain cancer last year.  Not only will Boston's memory live on, but everything grown in the garden will be used in the school lunches at the Elementary.
